Most contractors will experience periods of working at home, which is why it’s important to have a dedicated space to work productively.
Here’s four things to consider when setting up your home office workspace.
- Lighting is key
Ensure your home office makes the most of the natural light available, as this will help you to work more efficiently than artificial lighting. Try and positon your desk so that it’s facing a window rather than a wall to provide a more contusive environment.
- Noise controlled environment
Setting up your office in a high foot traffic area, such as near the kitchen or bathroom, may cause friction and distractions between the people you live with when you’re in the middle of an important project, so be aware of its location in the house.
- Choose décor carefully
What type of environment motivates and inspires you? If it’s too similar to the rest of your home it may make you feel too relaxed, so be mindful of the type of décor that will keep you energised and productive.
- A place for everything
You should carefully consider your storage requirements on and around your desk because piles of work and stationary will feel chaotic. Invest in pencil cups, trays, and folders to keep everything in an orderly fashion.
