There has been a considerable amount of discussion on the benefits of outsourcing payroll processes to save time and hopefully some money. In the interest of fairness we need to review the benefits and risks associated with outsourcing before making an informed decision.
The majority of large corporations outsource their payroll needs for the cost savings they can enjoy however most employers with less than 100 employees have elected to handle payroll internally. These entrepreneurs are starting to realize that the cost of employing people to handle these processes can become expensive and there is the added risk of not being in compliance with the constantly changing laws. If you are an entrepreneur and you are found to not be in compliance no matter how trivial the matter may seem it could cost you thousands of pounds and a blemish on your reputation.
Given the costs and risks reaching out to an organization that specializes in this area seems like a great idea. One of the biggest reasons that most small business operators are reluctant to take advantage of these programs is the perceived costs of utilizing the service. While the service is not free it is competitive when compared to having someone working inside of your office. The companies who are offering these services have various pricing schemes where some charge a flat rate where others bill by the hour.
Prior to looking at the cost of these services the biggest question you must address is whether the company offering these services is a reputable one. There are some smaller firms that are providing these services but industry experts have recommended going after firms that have been in operation for 5 or more years. The premise behind that suggestion is companies that have 5 years experience or more should have references from clients who have been with them.
The biggest concern is staying in compliance with the law while providing convenience for your employees. Find out whether the payroll company offers services like GIRO which to our friends reading this from the U.S.A. is commonly known as “direct deposit”. Most workers like the convenience of having their salary deposited right into their bank account.
When you have found the firms that offer these outsource payroll services you can review quotations from each of them. It would be prudent that after you have read over the testimonials left by other business owners you compare the costs of the services in relation to what it is costing you now to pay your staff. Prior to making the final decision ask the prospective payroll service provider whether they will pay for any errors due to their negligence, you need this assurance before making a final decision. Once you have completed your due diligence you can make an informed choice on whether you should outsource your payroll processes or keep it internal.
