Recent research has revealed that female contractors are now earning more than men as well as taking a larger percentage of contracts.
It’s thought that the rise of the female contractor is down to the flexibility of being able to schedule work around a family life, providing the best of both worlds.
Julie Stewart, chairman of Professional Contractors Group, an organisation representing the UK’s professional freelancers, comments: “It’s great that women are leading the way in choosing to go solo considering there is a common misconception that women don’t have the self-confidence to do it. Freelancers – be they male or female – have a strong, specialist skills base and it’s important for everyone to put themselves out there and shout about what they’re good at.”
Furthermore, women who choose to set up their own Limited Company whilst contracting may also be entitled to Maternity Pay, which is another attractive advantage for women who are looking to start a family. Contracting through a Limited Company also allows complete control of how projects are carried out as well as the ability to retain a larger proportion of your hard-earned income.
