Recently, a petition has been created by Paul Duffy seeking free childcare for parents working full time.
It is mentioned on the petition page that those parents who work fulltime should not be penalised by having to pay for childcare.
Interestingly, there is also a certain sentiment going around the UK that, there are people who are not working and are getting childcare benefits even when they don’t need it.
So far, this petition has received 46,500+ signatures on it.
For the government to respond on this petition, the petitioner would need at least 100,000 signatures. This should not be difficult, if this is the major sentiment across the UK.

According to Gov.uk, the current scenario is:
You could get Child Tax Credit for each child you’re responsible for if they’re:
- under 16
- under 20 and in approved education or training
You don’t need to be working to claim Child Tax Credit and you get money for each child that qualifies and Child Tax Credit won’t affect your Child Benefit.
How much you get depends on your circumstances - you can use the tax credit calculator to work this out.
Click here if you wish to sign and support this petition and put it in front of the UK government.
