Professional profile

Datacentre migration and transformation specialist. I have moved production estates between datacentres, clouds and owners: greenfield builds to defence security standards, application separations after venture capital purchase, and legacy banking decommissioning. Migrations are won or lost on the parts that are not technical, so that is where I put the effort. Assessing the current, future and target modes of operation. Agreeing treatment for every application, interface and batch job. Taking options through design authorities and change boards. Building runbooks delivery teams can execute, and orchestrating the suppliers who run them. I have led teams from 5 to 40+, worked both sides of the MSP relationship, and I translate between board level and end user without losing the detail. I notice things others overlook and use that alongside the wider picture. Underneath sits a hands on technical base across Azure and AWS, networking, identity, Zero Trust, infrastructure as code and security compliance, enough to challenge specialists at the boundaries rather than take their word for it. Clear and concise, and I take pride in my work.

Relevant work experience

Contracting since 2001 as migration lead, solutions architect and technical design authority. Leadership and delivery. Teams from 5 to 40+. Technical design authority signing off HLDs and LLDs, and taking treatment options through architecture review and change boards for regulatory approval. Orchestrating MSPs and systems integrators through cutover, having worked both sides of that relationship. Building runbooks delivery teams can execute, translating between board level and end user. Migration and separation. Greenfield datacentre build in defence to MoD and NCSC standards for OFFICIAL and SECRET data. Rationalised an estate of over 420 packaged and SaaS applications to 164, and consolidated three DBMS platforms into one, removing over £3m of licence cost. Migrated a full datacentre operation with service resumed inside 48 hours against a 72 hour window. Moved 500+ servers, filers, network hardware and 2500+ client devices into a new segregated network segment under strict SLAs, with separate AD forests and 14 acquired businesses consolidated into one directory. Decommissioned a legacy banking estate, classifying and treating applications, batch jobs, ETL, message queues, mainframe links and file transfers. Cloud and modernisation. Lead architect on an Azure programme: landing zones to CAF, hub and spoke with Azure Firewall, Zero Trust using Entra ID and Global Secure Access, Azure Virtual Desktop for 450+ users replacing Citrix, SQL Managed Instance behind private endpoints, Bicep and Azure DevOps. Earlier, a phased AWS migration to a non negotiable deadline with continuous operation. Security and continuity. NIS compliance, Cyber Essentials Plus, redundant clusters with near zero recovery times, DR aligned to business RPOs and RTOs.
