Job description

We are seeking an experienced Azure Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join a major digital transformation programme within one of the UK's leading manufacturing organisations.

Supporting critical Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Digital IT initiatives, you will play a key role in delivering secure, scalable, and high-performing Azure cloud environments that enable cutting-edge technologies across the business.

The Role

As an Azure Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimising secure and scalable Azure cloud solutions across complex enterprise environments.

Working closely with architects, developers, business analysts, DevOps teams, and data stakeholders, you will help deliver cloud infrastructure that supports application development, data platforms, and business-critical services. The role focuses on cloud engineering best practices, automation, infrastructure-as-code, reliability, security, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver scalable Azure cloud solutions aligned to business and technical requirements.
  • Build and configure Azure environments to support application, data, and DevOps teams.
  • Support cloud migration and modernisation initiatives across enterprise platforms.
  • Implement secure Azure infrastructure in accordance with governance, compliance, and security standards.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions.
  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and YAML.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, data engineers, and delivery teams to resolve infrastructure challenges.
  • Support containerised deployments using Docker and Kubernetes technologies.
  • Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation.
  • Proactively identify risks, blockers, and improvement opportunities.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Active SC Clearance.
  • Degree in Computing, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years' IT experience with at least 5 years working extensively in Azure Cloud.
  • Strong expertise across Azure IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS services.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing Azure cloud solutions for large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Experience with Azure data services including Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL and NoSQL solutions, Azure Batch Services
  • Demonstrable experience migrating workloads and data from on-premise environments into Azure.
  • Strong understanding of networking, firewalls, Azure Active Directory, Application Gateway, and cloud security controls.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex Azure infrastructure and connectivity issues.
  • Expertise in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Bicep, ARM Templates, PowerShell
  • Strong Azure DevOps experience, including CI/CD pipelines, YAML pipelines, Git repositories, Branching strategies, Artifacts and release management


Desirable Skills

  • Kubernetes and containerisation technologies.
  • Reverse proxies, Traffic Manager, and gateway technologies.
  • Azure security best practice implementation.
  • Linux administration experience (RHEL and Ubuntu).
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
  • Exposure to enterprise cybersecurity standards and compliance frameworks.
